卡塞尔（2020年人口201,000）是北黑森州最重要的城市。它以每五年举办一次的当代艺术文献展（Documenta）而闻名于世。威廉姆斯高地城堡公园及其喷泉是 联合国教科文组织世界遗产。

卡塞尔的历史可以追溯到公元913年的首次记载，但考古发现表明该地在10世纪之前就有人类居住。这座城市很快就成为了黑森领地的中心，后来又成为其王室住所。

在三十年战争期间，卡塞尔的领主菲利普宣布支持新教。这一举动产生了影响，因为后来许多胡格诺派教徒从法国移民过来，并带来了他们的贸易和技能。胡格诺派教徒的影响至今仍能在卡塞尔市中心看到，街道以胡格诺派教徒的名字命名。

卡塞尔成为了一个重要的工业和科学城市，这仍然可以在橘园博物馆（Orangerie）中看到，那里展出了启蒙时代大量的科学仪器。值得注意的是，第一台产生喷泉的蒸汽锅是由帕潘在卡塞尔制造的，有传言说他在蒸汽船上离开卡塞尔几年后，詹姆斯·瓦特才完善了他的原型。

卡塞尔在第二次世界大战时已经是重工业基地，生产火车、坦克和飞机。战争后期，卡塞尔作为军事目标遭到英国和美国飞机的彻底轰炸。

卡塞尔是著名格林兄弟的故乡，他们写了很多迪士尼今天仍在使用的童话故事。他们一项不太出名但可能更重要的工作是尝试编写一部“完整的”德语词典，该词典在他们去世后才完成。他们居住过的房屋被改造成博物馆，里面有很多有趣的文物。

卡塞尔市中心在第二次世界大战期间被彻底摧毁，因此以极其平淡的20世纪50年代风格重建（尽管不得不承认，这部分是由于预算限制，并且当时也被认为不好看）。因此，市中心主要被现代风格的银行和商场建筑所占据。

高速公路（汉诺威-维尔茨堡）、（卡塞尔-多特蒙德）和（卡塞尔-马尔堡）均可抵达卡塞尔。

乘火车

卡塞尔是ICE（城际快车）网络的重要枢纽，也是德国第一条专用高铁线路的城市之一，连接维尔茨堡和汉诺威。大多数ICE列车和部分地区列车都停靠1 卡塞尔-威廉姆斯高地长途车站，距离市中心约4公里。私营运营商Flixtrain也服务卡塞尔-威廉姆斯高地。Flixtrain不接受DB（德国铁路）的票，反之亦然。

卡塞尔的历史悠久的2 主火车站，在威廉姆斯高地车站开通后经过翻新，被品牌化为“文化车站”（Kulturbahnhof），并且离市中心更近。只有往返于此的地区列车。您可以乘坐火车往返于两个车站之间，建议从主火车站开始您的探索，因为它离大多数景点更近。

乘巴士

这3 卡塞尔-威廉姆斯高地巴士总站 （城际巴士站），也称为ZOB，毗邻卡塞尔-威廉姆斯高地火车站。在高速公路一侧的卡塞尔市界外几米处还有一个城际巴士站：4 考夫永根造纸厂。有轨电车线路4和8从市中心的造纸厂站运行。

乘飞机

• 5 卡塞尔机场 (KSF  ^IATA) (位于卡尔登，距市区10公里). 它接收来自叙尔特岛和黑林斯多夫的 MHS Aviation 航班，以及来自马略卡岛帕尔马（AlbaStar 航班）和博尔扎诺（Sky Alps 航班）。卡塞尔机场航站楼、市中心以及主火车站和威廉姆斯高地火车站之间有100路公交车运行。 (更新于2025年6月)

下一个主要机场在汉诺威（HAJ ^IATA）以及当然还有法兰克福机场（FRA ^IATA）。由于它们与德国铁路网络连接极佳（法兰克福机场有一个高铁ICE站点），并且卡塞尔是一个主要枢纽，您可以在不超过两小时内从机场到达市区。您也可以购买机票和火车票的组合票。

• 1 威廉姆斯高地城堡公园。自2013年被列入联合国教科文组织世界遗产名录以来，该“山顶公园”值得一游，据称是欧洲最大的公园，也是世界第二大的山坡公园。公园顶部矗立着赫拉克勒斯雕像，俯瞰着城市，已成为其象征。此外，公园里还有许多小型建筑，主要是仿希腊神庙、仿中世纪城堡、仿采石场——您懂得。但公园内的宫殿中伦勃朗和鲁本斯的画作并非仿造，需购票进入。公园在夏季（5月1日至10月3日）的每周三、周日和公共假日中午14:30开始举办水上表演（Wasserspiele）。瀑布群（赫拉克勒斯雕像下方）、仿瀑布和仿罗马水道等各种景点会在大约半小时内开启供水，游客将从上往下移动。还有狮子城堡（Löwenburg）和威廉姆斯高地宫殿（Schloss Wilhelmshöhe）及其古老艺术杰作。

教堂

Hoher Dörnberg, worth seeing mountain in the Habichtswald

Getting a little bit out of the city can be a good thing. Around Kassel there are beautiful forests and ponds that have really good trails like the Habichtswald in the west or the Reinhardswald in the north. You can travel with buses direct into them (Bus 22 or 190).

Habichtswald

The Habichtswald and the Naturpark Habichtswald are located in the west of Kassel. You can find in the nature park châteaus as1 Schloss Wilhelmsthal, old castle ruins as the2 Weidelsburg or worth seeing mountains as the3 Hoher Dörnberg with Helfensteine, where also the Naturparkzentrum is located (bus line 117 from Zierenberg train station, lines R4/RT4). Medieval towns in the Naturpark Habichtswald are Zierenberg, Wolfhagen and Naumburg (Hesse).

Reinhardswald

Sababurg in the Reinhardswald

The Reinhardswald is an area associated with fairy tales and the stories of the Brothers Grimm, for example "Sleeping Beauty", who should lived on the4 Sababurg, an old castle in the middle of the forest. There are nice medieval and baroque towns around the Reinhardswald, like Hann. Münden in Lower Saxony or Bad Karlshafen in the north of Hesse. Visit also the5 Tierpark Sababurg, the oldest animal park of Europe and the6 Urwald Sababurg, the first Naturschutzgebiet of Hesse. Bus line 190 runs through the Reinhardswald from Hofgeismar train station, train lines RE17/RT1, or Hann. Münden train station, train lines RE2/RE9/R8.

Edersee

Edersee Dam

The Edersee is a reservoir and together with the Nationalpark Kellerwald-Edersee a multifaceted touristic area in the southwest of Kassel. Most famous are the7 Edersee Dam and8 Schloss Waldeck, but there are also smaller sights and not to forget the objects, which you can just see when there is only very little water in the reservoir, like the Aseler Brücke (bridge). Around the Edersee and in the Kellerwald you can find a lot of hiking trails or cycle paths.

Upland

The Upland is the northeastern part of the Hochsauerland and Rothaar Mountains and a ski and hiking area. The most famous mountain is the Ettelsberg (837,7 m ü. NHN), because of the heath and the9 Hochheideturm, a 59-metre high observation tower, with a platform at 831 metres high. A cable car runs between Willingen and the mountain. Next to the Ettelsberg you can find the10 Mühlenkopfschanze，这是世界上最大的跳台滑雪场，每年都会举办世界杯赛事。
