[]Aki-Takata was part of the ancient Aki province. During the late 15th century, it was under the control of several minor local warlords. Among them, the Mōri clan adapted the Yoshida-Koriyama Castle as their main castle, then expanded it under the leadership of Mōri Motonari, who rose into an influential warlord dominant of the Chugoku region.
During the Edo period, the Mōri clan’s influence in Aki-Takata diminished, but Aki-Takata continued to thrive as a bustling city.

Adapted by warlord Mōri Motonari as Mōri clan’s main castle and demolished during early Edo period after the Shimabara Rebellion (1637-1638), the site contains ruins of Mōri Clan's former mountain castle.
