本指南关于 拼写 和 标点符号 的问题。
英语的国家变体
[]维基行客不偏好任何一种主要的英语国家变体。美式英语和英式英语在词汇（truck vs. lorry）、拼写（center vs. centre）、日期格式（"April 13" vs. "13 April"）以及极少数的表面语法上有所不同。印度、爱尔兰、新西兰、巴基斯坦、新加坡和南非英语在拼写上几乎与英式英语相同，加拿大和澳大利亚也大多采用这些拼写。这些变体通常统称为英联邦英语。
有些词汇是某个变体特有的；在这种情况下，最好在首次出现时用括号解释其含义或另一种变体中的对应词（"Some drivers charge extra for the use of the trunk (boot) of their cabs"）。这里，trunk 和 boot 在某些变体中可能不为人所知，尽管 cab 和 taxi 可能在各地都广为人知，无需解释。

如果目的地没有使用英语的历史并且没有明确的变体偏好，我们偏好使用美式英语拼写。这并非因为美式英语更优越，也不是为了侵犯其他英语国家的权利、遗产和文化。我们只是决定选择一种默认的拼写风格以保持一致性（然而，确实有一些例外）。
一个例外是，在维基行客项目页面（如政策和指南页面、探险页面以及维基行客：旅人酒吧的名称）中，倾向于使用英式拼写的 "traveller" 而非美式拼写的 "traveler"。对于条目，则遵循一般规则。

连字符 (-) 表示连接。主要有三种用法：

破折号：维基行客使用两种破折号：en dash (–) 和 em dash (—)。如果您的键盘没有这些符号，请在编辑窗口下方的工具栏中点击它们（该工具栏可插入各种字符和符号），或手动输入如下：

Cafe vs. café
